Answers

Answer:

Unconstitutional to tap a public phone without a warrant.

Explanation:

In Katz v. United States, 1967, the Supreme Court ruled that The Fourth Amendment protection should bring under its aegis the right to private conversation even electronically. In other words, the court ruled out that it was unconstitutional to wiretap electronic devices without a warrant.

Charles Katz was arrested for interstate gambling in 1965 with evidences from his telephonic conversation from a tapped telephone booth. However, his case became a much debated case on how far does the Fourth Amendment protection apply to.

Based on his case, the Supreme Court concluded that telephone booth becomes a private space when a person enters inside it, therefore it is unconstitutional to wiretap a telephone booth without a warrant.

The group that contributed the most to American society and culture is the Native Americans. They came up with the famous game lacrosse that is played by schools and other organizations. The natives also dyed beads that were traded and made into necklaces or incorporated them into dresses. The last thing they contributed to America is the unique names they made up. These names were used in U.S maps. Without these names then we would have named it ordinary and boring.

Now it’s time to put on your thinking caps. Use the lesson and your life to answer the next question.

How has the role of children in society changed from colonial times to the present? (Hint: Do children still do the same things today as they did in colonial times? What is the same? What is different?)

Children now don’t really have to do the same things as the children in the past. Some things that were similar are having school from fall to spring. Another thing that is similar is doing chores. One thing that was different was the variety of chores they did. For example, girls made soap or clothing while boys worked on the farm. Children now depend on their parents to get the goods and needs we need. This means children don’t have to work on farms and rely on them.

what does Washington think about protest as a strategy for achieving social equality?

Answers

Answer:

Washington's "ideas posed what DuBois considered an imperfect middle ground between the legacy of slavery and the expansion of freedom for blacks. Washington argued that blacks didn’t immediately need all of the freedoms granted them under emancipation and that it might be wiser to cede some of these freedoms in the short term in favor of sharing the American quest for economic development." For DuBois, this kind of attitude only solidified the "veil" that existed between black America and white America.

Explanation:

Historians like W.E.B DuBois think that Washington's belief is the result of ideological tussle between economic development and Social equality.

The Souls of Black Folk

It is a book written by W E B DuBois, in which he makes it clear that He and T. Washington do not share the same view about African-American social equality.

He said that for Washington the total social equality for African-American can only be achievable when there is an economical development, and for this reason the protest act like catalyst for social equality. DuBois believed his ideas is to choose "an Imperfect middle ground".

Why did the bear flag revolt happen ?

Answers

Answer:

The war between the United States and Mexico had been declared on May 13, 1846, but this news was not known in California until mid-July 1846. However, in the face of rumors of an alleged action by the Mexican government against the settlers of American origin in the territory, a group of thirty-three armed men seized the city of Sonoma, flying a white flag with a bear and a star (the "bear flag") to symbolize the birth of the Republic of California, independent of Mexico.

That same day, June 14, the rebels captured the former Mexican commander of Northern California, General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, who was the leader of the military company stationed at the Sonoma Presidio. Sent to Fort Sutter, he was imprisoned on August 1, 1846.

The first and only president of the new Republic was the American pioneer William B. Ide, whose presidency lasted twenty-five days.

In April 1846, the beginning of the war being imminent, the federal government sent Colonel Rafael Tellez to the front of a large military body, very well equipped, to embark for Alta California and help defend the territory, much coveted by the United States. But upon arriving in Mazatlan, Tellez rebelled against President Mariano Paredes de Arrillaga and stayed in Sinaloa, where in complicity with foreign merchants he established a post in the southern part of the state and stole it from obedience to the local government. While this was happening, the US Pacific squad landed marines in Alta California (July 1846) which, after a violent struggle, managed to defeat the Mexican settlers, abandoned to their own forces, because in addition to Tellez revolted in Mazatlan, another detachment sent by Acapulco was retained in that region by the Native chief Juan Alvarez.

The Mexican governor, General Jose Castro, tried to stop the revolt and sent a detachment of 50 men against the rebels, but on June 23, 1846, the commander of the US Army John C. Fremont arrived with an army of sixty armed men, joined the "bear flaggers" and took command of the combined forces. The Mexican soldiers were defeated in the Battle of Olompali.

On July 7, a frigate and two sloops of the US Navy, under the orders of John D. Sloat, defeated the Mexican Coast Guard of the port of Monterrey, California, in a minor skirmish ( the Battle of Monterrey). This action indicated to Fremont that the war between Mexico and the United States had begun. In view of this fact, the "bear flaggers" abandoned the idea of creating an independent republic and joined the fight with the intention of incorporating California into the United States of America, as a sign of this new objective; They replaced the bear's flag with the American one. President Ide went from being the first magistrate of the republic to becoming a simple soldier of the "California Battalion", controlled by Fremont.
