Hey can you guys help me please!! I need this really bad. What are two overarching messages in the novel Illegal? Please help me. I need lots of help!

Answers

Answer 1

The main "Illegal" messages are the relationships between privilege, power and race. This can be seen in social relations in relation to race, as the story takes place in a universe where white-skinned people have guaranteed citizenship, have power social and economic, the freedom to act as they please, and all the perks that a system can promote. The black population, on the other hand, does not have this citizenship and is devalued, oppressed, exploited and even deported and killed.

"Illegal" presents the story of a society in a fictional country called the Freedom State. Despite the name, the country lives in a system of constant oppression, where the entire society is subject to governmental control, which determines who is legal within the country and those who are illegal and must be fought.

Answer:

C or "by implying that forced uniformity interferes with individuals' intellectual development"

Explanation:

A)by suggesting that forced uniformity specifically benefits individuals who are not smart

C)by implying that forced uniformity interferes with individuals' intellectual development

These two answers make the most sense, but with the wording of the question, suggest a lean towards the second.

Considering it wants a warning of the consequences it seems to want something negative, which C offers. A actually provides support for uniformity, but also makes more sense in the context of what was just read, especially in regards to the last line.

I would suggest you take a deeper look at the previous questions to see whether your teacher really wants you to view the text in a good or bad light, which would help you identify the best answer; but for now I suggest C.

The excerpt presented in the question above is an excerpt from the play "A raisin in the sun" which features a family who received a large amount of money, which, despite changing their lives, proved that many problems affected all members of the family. Science Mysteries: Why Do People Yawn?

Science has given humans many amazing devices and useful bits of knowledge. We know so much about our bodies and how to stay healthy, for example. We also know how to make machines and devices that make life easy for us. Scientists dedicate their lives to knowledge, but even with a lifetime commitment, sometimes scientists fail to find all the answers. One mystery that still remains unsolved is why we yawn—what makes us yawn and what purpose it serves.

Recent studies suggest that we yawn when we get tired as a way to encourage our brains. The theory is that yawning helps cool the brain, allowing it to work more efficiently. According to WebMD's article about these studies, when you yawn, your jaw muscles get stretched, increasing blood flow to your neck, face, and head. Also a deep breath during the yawn forces spinal fluid and blood down from the brain. The cool air then cools down these fluids.

Other scientists believe, however, that yawning is a form of communication. This theory attempts to explain why yawning seems to spread from person to person. This kind of behavior is called "contagious yawning" and carries with it a possible social message. Scientists are not yet sure what exactly the message is, but they believe people who have more social empathy are more likely to start yawning when they see someone else yawning.

Scientists will continue to investigate the mystery of the yawn. Is it a leftover behavior from before humans had language? Was it a "Hey, I'm sleepy. Let's go to sleep" message? Or is it really just a way to keep our brains cool? While this behavior still is largely a mystery, one thing is certain: you are probably fighting the urge to yawn right about now.

In April 2010, an oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. Millions of gallons of oil leaked into the Gulf, devastating
wildlife. Scientists tried to clean up the spill in a variety of ways. One approach involved the use of oil-eating
bacteria. However, scientists were divided on its effectiveness. Some maintained that the bacteria were "fairly
fast" in cleaning the spill. Officials reported that the Gulf would make a full recovery by 2012. Yet Samantha Joye,
a marine scientist, disagreed. She conducted a study of the sea floor. She found that the bacteria had cleaned
only 10 percent of the oil. She reported that the Gulf would take many years to recover.
