Explain how Harriet Tubman was significant to the abolition movement (What did she do)?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery in the South to become a leading abolitionist before the American Civil War. She led hundreds of enslaved people to freedom in the North along the route of the Underground Railroad.( This is the short answer i will also give u the long answer)

Explanation:

Harriet Tubman, née Araminta Ross, (born c. 1820, Dorchester county, Maryland, U.S.—died March 10, 1913, Auburn, New York), American bondwoman who escaped from slavery in the South to become a leading abolitionist before the American Civil War. She led hundreds of bondmen to freedom in the North along the route of the Underground Railroad—an elaborate secret network of safe houses organized for that purpose.

Born a slave, Araminta Ross later adopted her mother’s first name, Harriet. From early childhood she worked variously as a maid, a nurse, a field hand, a cook, and a woodcutter. About 1844 she married John Tubman, a free black.

In 1849, on the strength of rumours that she was about to be sold, Tubman fled to Philadelphia, leaving behind her husband, parents, and siblings. In December 1850 she made her way to Baltimore, Maryland, whence she led her sister and two children to freedom. That journey was the first of some 19 increasingly dangerous forays into Maryland in which, over the next decade, she conducted upward of 300 fugitive slaves along the Underground Railroad to Canada. By her extraordinary courage, ingenuity, persistence, and iron discipline, which she enforced upon her charges, Tubman became the railroad’s most famous conductor and was known as the “Moses of her people.” It has been said that she never lost a fugitive she was leading to freedom.

Her accomplishments:

Harriet Tubman is credited with conducting upward of 300 enslaved people along the Underground Railroad from the American South to Canada. She showed extraordinary courage, ingenuity, persistence, and iron discipline.

What did s o to change the world?

In addition to leading more than 300 enslaved people to freedom, Harriet Tubman helped ensure the final defeat of slavery in the United States by aiding the Union during the American Civil War. She served as a scout and a nurse, though she received little pay or recognition

The Continental Congress have a difficult time paying back its war debts because it had no power to tax citizens to help pay back the debt. Thus, option 'B' is the correct option.

Why did the U.S. have a difficult time paying back its war debts?

The new US government established by the Articles of Confederation after the Revolutionary War lacked the authority to levy taxes. The US government had trouble repaying its debt from the war since there was no taxable income. The term "Continentals" refers to the paper money that the Continental Congress created in 1775 to aid in the financing of the American Revolutionary War.

Due to overprinting and the fact that the Continentals were not backed by actual assets like gold or silver, they swiftly lost value. The Continental Congress quickly minted money to pay for the army's costs and repay its foreign loans since it lacked the authority to tax the colonists. The colonies consequently experienced severe inflation and depreciation of the Continental dollar.

"The issue is socialism vs. capitalism. I am for socialism because I am for humanity. We have been cursed by the reign of gold long enough. Money constitutes no proper basis of civilization. The time has come to regenerate society—we are on the eve of universal change.”

Excerpt from an open letter to the American Railway Union in 1897, by Eugene Debs, founder and member of the Industrial Workers of the World

Which of the following best explains why Russians’ reaction to socialism differed from Americans’ in the late 19th century?

Russian society was largely agricultural, while American society was highly industrialized.
The Russian movement was a broad coalition, but the American movement was composed of only workers.
Russian workers lacked avenues of protest, while American workers had labor unions and political parties.
The Russian movement worked separately from less radical factions, while the American movement worked directly with more radical groups.

Answers

Answer: Russian workers lacked avenues of protest, while American workers had labor unions and political parties.

Explanation:

Russian workers in the late 19th century did not have a lot of avenues to protest because they were under an autocratic emperor known as the Tsar and the nobles and upper classes controlled the economy with a tight grip. They were therefore unable to declare their support for Socialism even if they supported it.

This was in sharp contrast to the freedom enjoyed by the Americans when they protested as they were in a democracy and had labor unions and political parties through which they could make their voices heard and champion their cause.
