Keyerror During Install

This guide covers the setting of a kernel parameter option during the installation wizard that will allow you to install ClearOS on some Dell (and others?) hardware that report an error otherwise.

KeyError: `eth0`

During installation of ClearOS (either by CD, DVD, USB key or PXE), you may encounter a fatal error that prevents installation. A screenshot of the error presented to the user is shown below.

Kernel Parameter Workaround

Start the normal install. When you come to the first menu, use the arrow keys to select the installation preference. Press the 'tab' key once highlighted to allow editing of the kernel parameter arguements.

When you are in edit mode, add the following options to the end of the existing kernel parameters:

  biosdevname=0

Click 'Enter' once your edits are complete to proceed as normal with the installation.
